Overcoming the challenge of posing

How should I sit? What should I do with my hands? Why do I feel so awkward? What is a feminine pose? How can I look more at ease?  These are just a few of the questions that seem to rush through people's minds when they are in front of a camera lens.

While the rise of phone selfies these days has made it more likely you'll appear in pictures, it is still a psychological barrier for many to pose in front of a photographer.  Especially, in the trans and crossdressing world where there can also be a sense of being an imposter or not as good as others.

The good news is, that a photoshoot is a safe space to be who you want to be. The photographer is there to support and guide you. Posing guides on Pinterest and other websites can be helpful. Look especially at how arms are held away from the body and hands and wrists accentuate poses.  Merely shifting your body weight onto one leg while bending the knee and standing on tiptoe with the other can make a huge difference.

Close your eyes, explore the space around you with extended arms. Pretend you are dancing and lift your hands above your head, flex your hips from side to side. Feel adored and respected.  Own the pose! Above all else, have fun!
